PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project forms part of the West Dapto Access Strategy, designed to improve safety, provide pedestrian and cycleway linkages, reduce congestion, improve flood reliable access and increase connection to the congestion and wider road network.
The first phase of works on West Dapto Road, located at the western end, included road widening, new line marking and signage, stormwater upgrade works, the construction of a shared path, and the relocation of various services such as watermains. These elements are crucial for infrastructure development and utility management.
JC CIVIL PROJECTS ROLE
JC Civil Projects was engaged by Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure
as their lead estimators on the West Dapto Road Upgrade for works
associated with Stage 1.
Our role involved providing expert estimation services, undertaking quantity take-offs to ensure the project was accurately scoped, and advising on key aspects of constructability.
KEY PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
The project involved a comprehensive scope of works, including the relocation of watermains and power lines, construction of a level
rail crossing, and extensive earthworks and pavement construction. Additionally, the project included road and drainage works aimed at improving accessibility during flood events.
KEY DELIVERABLES
JC Civil Projects played an important role in preparing associated cost estimates for the project. This included:

Comprehensive First Principles Estimate - developed a detailed
and accurate cost estimate for Stage 1 of the West Dapto Road
Upgrade, ensuring all aspects of the project were financially
scoped and accounted for. -
Quantity Take-Offs - conducted thorough quantity take-offs for
all key components of the project, including the relocation of
watermains and power lines, road widening, stormwater upgrades, and construction of the level rail crossing. -
Constructability Review and Advice - provided expert advice on
the constructability of the project, identifying potential challenges and optimising the construction approach to enhance project efficiency and reduce risks.
OUTCOMES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Abergeldie was awarded the contract with Wollongong
Council, with JC Civil Projects’ thorough estimation and
constructability expertise playing a key role in securing the win.
